"That's true," Rebecca amended. "But how about you let me do the next task, okay?" She smiled, taking his free hand as they walked through the marketplace. It sent a little butterfly fluttering through her stomach but she tried to make nothing of it.
Rebecca let her head bend down a bit, so she was mainly watching her feet but every once in a while, she would peek over her hair, looking at Jett. He was so comfortable to be around, it was hard not to be attracted to him.
She looked back up at him, her eyebrows knitted together. "Of course, Jett," she answered once he had finished. "They are a few friends of my from a faction. I belong to the Dreamers, though I don't quite like that name. I'm having a few of the newer members come over and a few others possibly. Who knows?" She shrugged and looked over the people at the marketplace. "I just want to have the new members come over and feel comfortable as being part of the Dreamers is all," she looked back over at him, "but with you there that shouldn't be a problem seeing as you're all about making people's lives easier."

Jett's pulse quickened when Bex's hand found his, not because he was nervous--around women that feeling was foreign. The motion just excited him is all. An attractive woman touching you was a great place to be in. A gorgeous woman holding your hand was even better. Jett squeezed her hand for a brief moment, enveloping it with his long fingers.
"Sure sure. Of course I wouldn't deny a woman her rights to...whatever it is you will want to do next." He lied through his teeth. Her attempts to help herself would be foiled the second he figured out what she was trying to do and beat her to doing it. His teacher had always insisted that a woman shouldn't have to bend her own finger. That's not to say he depreciated their capability. . .Jett was just supposed to always be there.
When the Dreamers were brought into the conversation Jett stopped walking, his eyes widening in surprise and interest.
"You're a Dreamer?" He juggled the thought in his mind. "I didn't think...that is to say, I know you were happy here." Jett found himself shifting the bag of strawberries to one arm in order to free his hand which rose to the side of Bex's face. He reached out to place the palm of his hand against her cheek, tilting her head as if to see her in a better light.
"That's magnificent." He cooed, as if observing a strange new specie. "I've found peace here as well. I'd be more than content to live the rest of my life here in Freakopolis."

Rebecca's thumb gently stroked the back of his hand. A subconscious movement. His hand was warm and she was aware of his gentle fingers squeezing her hand. It was less intimate then the squeeze around her midriff and more welcomed then it. It sent more butterflies to her stomach and she smiled over at him, hiding the hollow feeling in her stomach from her face.
"Why do I have trouble believing that? Seeing as since I've met you all you've done is try to help me in any way possible," she said, a sly grin spreading over her lips. Rebecca was a do-it-yourself kind of girl when it came down to it though. She didn't depreciate a man's help but she also liked to know she could do things herself once in a while.
Bex's eyes widened as he suddenly stopped. She paused beside him questioningly but mainly because their hands were still intertwined.
Bex's eyebrows raised as he tried to get his thoughts across. She bit her lip, holding in a giggle at him. "I'm the second in command actually," she told him softly, before he could go one with his next statement. She wasn't bragging but she was proud with her placement in the faction.
A smile lit her face as he went on about how he felt toward Freakopolis. She raised her hand to the one that cradled her face, taking a small step toward him. "You should join Jett. I'd love to have you with me--" She paused. "Us," she amended.

"The second in command."
Jett's eyebrows climbed his forehead. Again, the light through which he regarded her changed. Truth be told, women weren't popular when they held high positions. It had been a stunning and irregular change when the village accepted a woman as the Witch Doctor three years ago. Some of the older men revolted and there was a falling out that didn't end so well. But Jett had eventually accepted the high standing women once reaching America. It was ordinary but. . .he could cope.
"That is very good." He told her, although it may have been obvious that his heart was not behind it. It was merely a part of his upbringing and nothing against Bex herself.
"I would love to join you--" he shared her smile, though there may have been more lying under his. "You all."

Bex nodded her head but a puzzled look flashed across her eyes. She wondered if maybe she had said something wrong. There had been a definite change in the mood but she didn't know why. Her eyebrows knitted together and she looked down, away from his face trying to go over her words to see what she might have said. She didn't think it had anything to do with her standing. Being second-in-command had proven to be more or less the same stuff she did when she was just a regular member. She just organized more things for the Dreamers.
Her eyes raised back to his as he spoke once more. She only grew more confused. It sounded like one might say to a proud toddler after they tied their shoes. As if she had told him for praise. She shook her head slightly, trying to clear her thoughts. She just didn't understand what had happened. She had no clue about how he was raised. She couldn't expect to know what this new information about her life could or could not mean to him.
"Then maybe it's good you're coming tonight. I don't know. I think Demetrio, the head, will be there." She dropped her hand from the one on her face and rubbed the back of her neck, the awkwardness not leaving her yet.

Jett pulled his own hand away as she removed hers from his, wondering if something had come over her. She seemed to change the more she looked at him, and he wondered if there was something unbecoming sitting on his face.
Glancing to the side, Jett wiped at his face with his palm, hoping to remove any imperfections. That didn't seem to be the case. He scrutinized her with dark eyes.
"Are you feeling ill?" He certainly hoped not. "Well, no matter, you'll be better once you have a taste of those berries, eh?" Jett tried to lighten the mood by grinning and nodding his head towards the sack he held. "And being in the company of your people will help, no doubt."
Eager to be on with their journey and to meet these Dreamers, Jett began towards the river, whistling a merry tune.

Bex rose a quizzical eyebrow as he wiped his face but shrugged it off, not thinking much of it other then that it was an odd maneuver. She raised her hand from her neck through her hair, pulling her fingers through her messy layers.
Some of the awkwardness left Bex as he asked if she was ill. She shook her head, a new soft smile spreading across her lips. "I suppose. If I'm not I guess it's your fault," she said, smiling a little wider. She shrugged at his next comment. "Being around you isn't so bad either." The awkwardness had passed and Bex was genuinely smiling again.
She quickly followed behind Jett, only slowing her pace once she was beside him again.
