[Closed.] The courtyard surrounding the fountain had been lightly populated when Sulley had strolled in, but as the minutes of his presence pressed on the mutants began to trickle away until he was alone. It wasn't necessarily because they were afraid, though that was a likely reason. People just didn't like being around him. Not only was his aura dark and stoic, but he had a reputation of being a bringer of bad news and bad luck. Freakopolis on its own was a dull banner, it didn't need another mutant making it worse.
Sulley didn't really notice though. It wasn't in his nature to seek the acceptance of others, and though he would have noticed them leaving if he'd been paying attention, he still wouldn't have been aware of the fact that he was the cause.
The fake sky cast a fake brooding cloud over the fake sun, making the day dim and lifeless in all it's falsities. He should have been cold but either the simulator malfunctioned or those beyond the walls didn't feel like matching the air with the sky's appearance.
Mara had told him to meet her at the fountain. Sulley had taken his sweet time in coming from the field, hoping she'd be impatiently waiting with this new fellow. Like most women she looked better when she was angry or when a spark of fire ignited in her eye. Then again Sulley's mood was matching the day's and he was certain he wouldn't be able to contest with the venomous tongue of an aggressive woman.
So he sat on the fountain's edge and cut the water with a sharpened hand. His mutation never seized to perplex him.

Mara waited impatiently at the point she had designated for Claude to come and meet her. It was just out of sight of the fountain and Sulley so when he arrived she had no idea he was there. On the walk over Mara had had time to get mad. A slight glare rested on her features that no amount of acting could erase. Mara was angry. Angry at Claude, who had made her feel so weak and afraid. Angry at Sulley, who made her confused and irritated. Added to this was the anger that always festered inside of the woman. The anger at those that had created this place and forced her into it.
It came together to sit on her face as a haughty stare. Her body language reflected this as well. She was rigid and her arms were crossed in front of her. Having to wait for Claude was only making it worse. She had gone to the trouble of setting up this meeting, the least the man could do was be punctual. Her finger tapped lightly on her arm as she stood. This confrontation could well end very poorly. In fact she could easily envision it erupting into a fight that would be talked about at Freakopolis for ages.
The question that possessed Mara however was not whether they would fight. To her it was, if they do fight who shall I stand by? She had sworn to Sulley and she was loath to even consider breaking that oath. Claude, on the other hand, had power. He had a lot of power and a brain to go with it. The part of her that sought to complete her goals was enthralled by that. It was a struggle that would not be solved by mere thinking. Action would be required. When the time came she'd have to make a choice and Mara wasn't sure which she'd make.

Claude had more or less been quite punctual. It just so happened that he didn't make his presence known to either of the people he was destined to meet that day. He just stayed on top of the roof, one with a good vantage point of the fountain and a distance around it. Claude worked his powers, placing a ward around him. If people would go near, he merely made it so that they would not turn their heads in his direction, probability and proportion...there were many factors that were involved in it and Claude had taken into account all that he could. Of course there was no such thing as 100%, but as it was Claude's ward made him virtually invisible, although the more accurate term was unnoticeable.
He watched Ms. Ackhart at first, anger was painted across her features as surely as the sun above them was created from farse. She fidgeted with impatience and a brooding cloud came over threatening to rip her in two. From a certain angle, Claude found it amusing, the thrill of breaking a person's mind was unlike any other.
Suddenly, a second man made his way into the fore. The crowds parted and receded before him like the red sea did to Moses. He was barely older than Claude himself, and what some would consider attractive. Claude made on the spot comparisons with him and the man, whereas his features were softer the man's was chiselled and where his build was lithe, slender and toned, the other man had muscles like hard compacted granite. In a few minutes the crowds dispersed, seeming to find other things to occupy their time, leaving only this man and Ms. Ackhart.
Claude stepped out from the alley releasing his wards. Once again he was dressed all in white, this time around however he had a high-necked white coat over his shirt and his bear feet were covered in white velvet slippers. On the crook of his arm he carried a black leather book with numerous inscriptions scrolled in gold across its face. He stopped in front of the man he inferred to be the leader of this so called rebellion, Mara he left to her own devices. In a quick moment, Claude flashed a handsome smile. [white]"Curious, i expected more..."[/white] said Claude in a tone that hinted at both amusement and disappointment. His words were shady at best, left for anybody to interpret as they would.
But Claude was no an idiot, he was testing the waters trying to provoke and see whether this man was in anyway worth his time. He had already set-up precautions across the fountain area from the moment that Ms. Ackhart shared with him the location. He wasn't about to enter into a potential battlefield unprepared was he? Anything less would have been stupid.

Sulley eyed the man who popped into view. Had he really been so distracted that he hadn't seen him coming? His body tightened, muscles tensing in preparation. The man looked well-groomed. He stank of confidence and power, and thought Sulley did not show any sign of it physically, his mental self shrank away cautiously. This was the slimy type, he could tell already. The man's mutation obviously wasn't physical.
"Curious, I expected more..."
Sulley's expression remained flat as he blinked up at the stranger. So this was who Mara had been talking about? Sulley's eyes darted around, his expression slowly becoming murderous, before returning to Claude.
"Where's Mara?" The question came from his throat, not exactly a growl, but resembling one.

While Claude conferred with Sulley, Mara stayed off to one side unheeding of the meeting that had begun without her. Irritation wasn't helping out Mara's anger at all. She had told Claude to meet her and the time mentioned was already passed, though only by a minute or two. Why did these damned men seek to anger her so? Honestly, if she didn't need them she'd probably have tried to kill them already for the annoyance they'd put her through. Claude alone had ended up frightening her witless. Sulley was a constant source of irritation and confusion.
The question of her allegiance cropped up in her mind again. Why wouldn't it go away? She shouldn't even have to think about it. Sulley had her allegiance and a death threat to enforce it. Claude had fear and power. Mara...had a headache from thinking about it. Not only that but she felt a bit weak. Not in comparison but more in the vein of feeling as though she lacked strength. Mara put the idea aside as foolish. She had more important things to worry about than feeling poorly. It would probably pass anyway.
