Patrol of the shopping area was going well today. There were very few miscreants now. Manisha conjectured that perhaps her patrols had something to do with it. She had apprehended several hooligans and criminal types over the first few days. Now it seemed that all went smoothly. This mutant containment facility was odd. Manisha recognized the feeling of confusion and anger in the air of the place but being as she had no idea what to do about it she merely ignored it in favor of her self appointed duties. It was obvious that the guards hired were not adequate.
These rebellion types she'd heard about seemed to get away with their subvertive activities unhindered. Not only that but thieves and ruffians did not seem to be dealt with much either. It made Manisha question the value of even having guards. If they were there merely as decoration to discourage rioting and escape attempts then they would end up dead. Regardless of the reasoning, Manisha's training and indoctrination by the military required her to do her utmost to keep the peace. Eventually her commanding officer would reassign her elsewhere and she would be able to leave this place behind. Until then she'd protect the weak of this place and stop any neer do wells she found.
The reasoning behind her assignment here puzzled Manisha but she didn't question it at all. She was a soldier. Therefore she took her orders without question and obeyed them. She would do her duty here until recalled. That was her lot in life.

James was walking around the shops doing one of the things he did best, flirting with occasional look at some nice looking. He saw a nice dress that he thought Liliana would like so he traded some sheets of his poetry and bits of other stuff to get it sent to her cell with a little note from him. Hope she likes it, it would look amazing on her. As he walked along he felt the presence of another. Wow just sorta my day for finding others like me. James walked up to the person who had gained so much interest in his mind, "you know people don't like it when your in their head."

Manisha watched several folks make trades for things as she walked. Perhaps they were getting things for those they cared about. Manisha supposed that meant that they were getting used to their new lot in life. Maybe it was for that odd emotion known as love. Having never experienced it herself she couldn't be sure. Regardless, they were for the most part civilians with little to no combat experience. That made it her job to protect them. As she made her final sweep before moving on to another area she heard someone address her. She focused her attention on the individual.
"Then it is a very good thing that I am not using my powers, civilian."
Wonderment that this civilian had known something of her ability filled Manisha. She had not been utilizing it. Perhaps he was attuned to other's mutations? Or maybe it was that he had a mental based power as well. Whatever the reason Manisha decided it would be best to inquire about it before moving her patrol.
"How did you know that my power was a mental one civilian?"
In the past Manisha had had trouble with non-military persons over that term, civilian. However it had remained firmly within her vocabulary simply because it was the easiest manner of calling those not of the military without knowing their names. People had called her rude for it. That was fine by Manisha. She had little time for people and their confusing emotions anyway.

"How did you know that my power was a mental one civilian?" "Believe me Sweetheart you aren't the first one I've I met." James muscles were still a tiny sore from his encounter with Scout and he hoped she was alright. "You've called me a civilian twice now which can only mean that you must be military." James chuckled a bit, "but what I have to wonder is why the military would lock up one of their own? I mean don't you have something better to do than rot in this forsaken place?" James sent his power towards her to get a general feel of things, he felt the strict no-nonsense way of someone who was in the military for too long. Poor girl probably thinks she is just here on assignment.

The answer that the civilian gave her was unsatisfactory but she accepted it none the less. He was only a civilian after all. Mostly likely he didn't even know how to give a proper report. The comment and question that followed made her military pride bristle with anger. How dare he imply that she was imprisoned here! She was First Lieutenant Manisha Lina Kapoor! She did not get imprisoned!
"I'll have you know that I have not been left here 'to rot' as you term it. This is my new station until I recieve further orders. Once my unit has need of me again I will be transfered away from this place immediately."
The words that left Manisha's mouth were delivered with the strict and polite tone that she had been trained to use when dealing with civilians. Despite her anger at his words it would be bad form for her to display it. A soldier was always in control. Anything less would be unbefitting the training she had recieved. It made her seem cold and machine-like to most. Manisha didn't care about most though.
There was truthfully no one she really did care about. The men of her unit came closest. Manisha would do whatever she could for them. She didn't understand them though. To her it was more out of the comradeship of having saved each other's lives innumerable times that she gave in to their antics than any sentiments she held toward them.

"Well then why aren't you wearing the uniforms that every other military personal is?" James sighed, ever since he hit his head during his capture his power wasn't in as well control than it should have been and what he said was way to sharp for the situation. "Look I'm sorry to tell you but new orders aren't going to reach you because all your records are already erased. As far as anyone is concerned you never were in the army, if you were ever born."

He knew nothing of her or her commander. Therefore he could only be spouting nonsense. First Lieutenant Manisha Lina Kapoor had been trained from age thirteen for her duties. She was an integral part of her unit and their mission. Without her and her abilities their success rate would plunge. That was why she knew he spoke nonsense. Despite her failure on that last mission she was much too valuable to simple throw away.
"You are not military and unless I am mistaken have no military contacts. Therefore you can only be conjecturing. I will be given new orders. Until then I will protect the mutants here that are incapable of protecting themselves."
Tedious. That was the word that described the situation. Manisha was beginning to view this civilian as tedious. Simply because that had been the way of things with him and the other civilians did not mean that she, an officer in the military, was subject to the same. Manisha was utterly confident that this was only a temporary posting. She could not imagine a life outside the military. The lack of someone to take orders from alone was scary enough.

"You are not military and unless I am mistaken have no military contacts. Therefore you can only be conjecturing. I will be given new orders. Until then I will protect the mutants here that are incapable of protecting themselves." James laughed, full out laughed. "You? You really think that these guards are here to protect us? The same guards that put me into the infirmary on a whim? The same that point guns with full intention to kill in cold blood?"
James looked at her, he could feel the woman's fear of not being cut off from the only life she knew. "Now you've yet to answer my first question, why aren't you in the uniform that keep people like me from turning my power on you? That's the only reason the guards are still here, they are immune to our abilities while you, a fellow soldier is left at our mercy, why?"

If Manisha were one given to bursts of emotion she'd sigh. As it was a fleeting look of annoyance made it's way onto her generally passive face and was gone in a flash. He'd mistaken her meaning.
"I know full well the duty of the guards in black armor. I don't wear their uniform because I was not transfered here to join their unit. They are here to keep the mutants in this internment camp within it's boundaries and make sure things run smoothly by whatever means they choose.'
'I am here as part of a different unit. I will protect the mutants interned in this camp. Being as I am not part of their unit they are under no obligation to provide me with anything."
He was delaying her patrol considerably now. Not only that but she was actually annoyed at his attempts to sway her. Like every other fleeting brush with emotion she'd had she shoved it under. All of that emotion was there, pent up inside. One day the dam would burst but until then she would remain the stoic soldier

James was one who knew emotions inside and out with the exception of perhaps love so he knew that the girl in front of him was annoyed. He also felt her push it away into what appeared to be quite a vault of emotions. "You know bottling things up will only make things worse in the end." James placed a caring hand on the girl, "trust me, I know the damage."

Manisha felt the hand he laid on her as he offered her what would be sound advice. However, being as Manisha was one who could not handle emotions, she ignored it. In the end it was safer to ignore them and push them away than to let them rule her. Manisha would be three different kinds of messed up if she let herself feel everything that she'd stored away of the years.
"Thank you for your concern but it is unneeded. I am alright and will continue to remain that way."
The stoic set of her face never broke for a moment during her thoughts and words. If you couldn't get into her head you wouldn't even know she'd felt anything at all. Emotions only got you into trouble as far as Manisha was concerned.

"No, no you won't." James didn't say that as an opinion but as a statement of fact. "People as supposed to feel emotions, if you don't inevitably they will break free and the results are always messy." James could do a thing if she didn't want his help but it would only be a matter of time before she couldn't pack it all away and the result would destroy her.

Manisha frowned this time. She didn't do it often, only when she was truly irked by someone. That she was frowning now meant that she was entirely out of patience for the guy in front of her and his well meaning tripe.
"Honestly, it is none of your business, civilian."
Manisha did an abrupt about face and marched away. There were other areas that needed patrolling and she was now very overdue. Lord knew what the lowest common denominator would be up to now that she was this late. End
