Mutation: Group Mind: Manisha can create a psychic link with other beings. She can include as many as ten people in this link, though at that number the link is fairly weak. This link works as a two way line of communication between anyone included in it. Depending on the strength of the link emotions, memories, thoughts, what a person sees, even pain can be shared. Because all information shared on the link passes through Manisha she has to limit either the strength or the number of people on a link or suffer a mental overload. An overload can have wide reaching effects. Anything from a mild headache to severe brain trauma and even death is possible.
In addition since the link works both ways it is possible for someone with a strong mind or psychic capability to break into Manisha's mind. Manisha is capable of shielding her own mind to a degree but it is still possible for someone to read most of her mind while linked.
History: Manisha was born in America in a small town near an army base. Her parents had been born in India but had moved to America at a young age. Her father was an army man at that little local base. Both mother and daughter were extremely proud of him. In fact Manisha hoped to be exactly like her father one day. Her life was fairly average until her power manifested at thirteen. Manisha was on base, visiting with the soldiers, when she first linked minds with people. Thankfully her father had been the only one in the room at the time.
He kept quiet about his daughter at first, wondering if he’d only just imagined it. It wasn’t until several months later at home that it manifested again. Her mother was understandably frightened but her father had a plan. He called the base and told them about it. If his daughter could truly do what he thought she could it would be a great asset to the military. If not then they could simply ship her away to that camp where they put her kind. When the soldiers came and took Manisha her mother was horrified at what her husband had done. Manisha went peacefully though because her daddy had told her it was the right thing to do. After that day Manisha never saw her parents again. The military carted her off to some secret base where she was raised, trained, and sent on missions.
Manisha took to the life she’d been given well. Her training went well and Manisha was glad to be given the opportunity to be like her father. Once she’d been sufficiently trained she was put with a unit. The guys in the unit took a little while to warm up to her. Especially after their first mission together and they learned of her ability first hand. However after the awkward adjustment period they came to view her as one of them. They took to calling her Mani, since it was shorter than Manisha. On her eighteenth birthday they took her to get a tattoo. Everyone else in the unit sported at least one. Manisha accepted the present as the indication that they accepted her. She really didn’t understand it but she kept the confusion bottled up just like everything else.
Unfortunately everything went downhill on the next mission. It seemed routine but it turned out to be anything but. They were mid mission and Manisha was in place to snipe the target when she felt someone intrude on the tactical link she had with the rest of the unit. She barely got off a warning to them before the intruder shut down the links and began attacking her mind. Without experience in this sort of warfare Manisha capitulated easily. She felt it as the intruder stripped vital information from her mind. Whoever they were then overloaded her senses and left her unconscious.
When Manisha awoke she was back in the barracks. Her unit crowded around her and demanded to know what happened. She explained to the worried soldiers and reassured them that she was fine. Their concern was worrisome but that too got bottled away. The next day she was told to report to her commanding officer. In his office was a unit of guards from Freakopolis. She was ordered to surrender her weapon and accompany the guards. She complied without question.
Report of Mutant Capture: Manisha awoke that morning as always. The men of the unit had babied her constantly yesterday because of what had happened during the mission and she assumed that it would be the same today. She was right of course. Manisha couldn’t go anywhere without at least one of them tagging along with her to make sure she was ok. It was honestly beginning to bug her but as always she said nothing and continued on with her day as normal. It was just after lunch that she received orders to report to the commander. The rest of the unit seemed apprehensive as she warned them off and made her way to his office. Truthfully Manisha was glad to be rid of them. While she appreciated them as comrades in arms she really didn’t know how to handle them outside of that.
When she arrived at the commander’s office the very first thing she noticed was the foreign operatives in the room. They were clad all in black armor and very prominently carrying guns. They were alert but not tense until she entered the room. Once she entered they snapped to full attention and within moments every gun they had was pointed at her. The commander barked out an order to put down their guns. After a very tense moment they complied.
“First Lieutenant Manisha Lina Kapoor. You are hereby ordered to surrender your weapon and accompany these men to Freakopolis. You will remain there until further orders. That is all.”
The commander’s clipped tones had little effect on Manisha. Though she would later realize that those words had sealed her future at that point she did nothing more than salute and offer him a clipped “Yes sir” of her own. She removed her gun and placed it on the commander’s desk. He nodded and the black robed guards surged forward and roughly guided her to a van. She climbed in of her own accord.
“Easiest capture ever.” remarked the unit leader as the doors were closed.
Once they arrived at her new station, this Freakopolis that her commander had called it, she endured the procedures required for admission to the place quietly. Upon the completion of those procedures she immediately obtained proper attire from this Madam Weaver person. Now she was ready to carry out her orders here, whatever they might be.
