The "different" way would be for each person to PM The Guard account and for them to be tallied that way. I'm not sure if some people didn't vote only because they didn't want anyone to hold a grudge, or if most of you just honestly didn't know who you wanted to pick.
Also, in previous sites I've been a part of I've seen a common trend of people who like to vote for those already winning. They figure they might as well cast their vote in the right direction. A more secretive voting style may prohibit this.
