Maku blinked as her fingers brushed against his to quickly take the pill, then consume it. He hoped in no time, she would feel better. Maku considered the latter of his previous thoughts, expecting that she realized something of importance. He didn't want to break the news to her that she was going to stay in this place. Freakopolis. The place for them. Freaks. Mutants. Whatever they were. But Maku believed they were still human, despite his previous fear of them. When he thought mutant, his mind would show images of gore and aggression with godly powers hailing over the human race. But now when he thought mutant, he pictured people like Laurel, Mara, or Laela. Nice people. They didn't want to harm others. The propaganda in his head forced those ideas. Some existed, but not all were violent.
Maku sat in worry as Laurel leaned against him. He blinked at first before looking down at her. She opened her mouth to speak, but there was a pause before the words were uttered. She started, "There not coming to get me are they?" Maku shook his head dismally. He was sorry. He felt bad that she came to this place. No one should be confined here. She continued. "What am I supposed to do?" He blinked. Maku didn't even know the answer to that. He asked that himself. What was he to do about living in this place? Maku would answer, but he had no idea what would be the best course of action.
Maku looked up at the ceiling. He thought about his world. He imagined what he had done his first week and so in Freakopolis. Maku remembered. Maybe Mara could help... The boy thought about it before looking back at Laurel. He bit his lip. "Laurel. I think you should look for a woman who goes by Slipstream. She could help you, hopefully..." Maku hoped this helped her. At least then she could get some information from someone who had been here longer than he had.
