Chesna's cheek twitched as he tacked on that last part. It stung to hear how useless she was right now, but a dark part of her opened up and beamed inside her chest. Her face didn't change the way his did. No, she was still too broken to be happy about a thing. But she liked the way he looked at her now. She felt... what's the word?
Respected? Yes, it seemed a lot more like that. She liked that.
Her lips parted and released a sigh. It stung as well, but she had finally managed to not care. "I will be," she said, and while the rasp was still there, the new found glimmer of murder she'd found was tangled in the words as well. They weren't hopeful. She wasn't being optimistic. She was swearing it to him, the same way she would swear her soul to the devil. But she had nothing more to say, and she could feel that he had nothing left for her. She turned her head away, interesting herself in the patterns on the uneven walls. If he wanted to go, then he was plenty free. She had eaten away enough of his time.
