Rosenna never thought that she would be the type to prowl a graveyard. Where she came from, graveyards were ok for the week after someone died, and then annaversaries of death. Never just on a whim. Especiallly if you didn't know anyone.
Rosenna counted the rows of mounds. She sighed. They could've fit all of the people that she killed in this graveyard. After all those years of random killings, how could she never been caught?
As she walked the rows, she let her tears fall silently. She wasn't a loud cryer. The only time she could ever remeber crying really hard was at a summer camp in high school where she was so filled with the holy spirt that she couldn't help crying. And when her parents died. That thought touched a nerve in her. Once she aquired her powers she often wondered if she had caused her parents deaths. It was possible. They had gotten in a fight over where she was to go to college. Or in Rosenna's mind, IF she would go to college. She specifically remembered shouting at her mother: "I wish you were dead." The question was if she meant it or not. And weather or not it was enough to kill them as they drove to church that evening.
Rosenna tilted her head to the sky.(if you could call it that) "How could you do this to me? Huh? I was a CHRISTIAN! I followed your commands, I was going to be a missionary! And you let this happen? I never though that the commandment I would have the hardest time with would be 'do not murder'. And now im in this prison and I don't even have my bible! How can you be here? How could you let me suffer like this?"
She sunk to her knees in sobs, praying for redemption for her almost unforgivable sins.

"You know shouting doesn't really help. If there is someone up there I really doubt that they listen to us mutants anyway."
That was the first thing out of Mara's mouth when she came upon the girl shouting toward the heavens in an obviously pained attempt to pull some reason out her deity for whatever had happened to her. Mara was there because she'd thought to have a look at the graveyard and see just how many lives this place had taken. She had been partway through her inspection when she'd heard someone and came to investigate.
Mara instinctively kept her distance. Being near distressed mutants was hazardous to one's health. She'd taken a chance once already recently when she met Sulley. Looking back on that she figured she was lucky not to have been injured. So she kept a fair distance between her and this unknown woman with whom she was sharing the graveyard.

She sobbed. Crying always made her feel better. In her prayers, she had given everything to her father and felt considerably lighter. But she still felt overwhelmingly angry at the whole situation. She was trying to decide what to do next when she heard a voice.
"You know shouting doesn't really help. If there is someone up there I really doubt that they listen to us mutants anyway."
A woman was standing there watching her. Rosenna felt unbelieveably raw and open. She was floored.
"Uhm." She eeked out. "Actually, the shouting does help. Its the same as shouting at a persong when you're angry."
Rosenna picked at a scab on her arm. What was she doing? She didn't even know this chick! She was a mutant after all. She could kill her easily for all Rosenna knew. She sighed.
"And He does listen to mutants. He listens to everyone. Well at least thats what I think. Well, nevermind, I KNOW. and uhhh." She trailed off, obviously at a loss for words.

Mara shrugged. To each their own. This one had her god and liked it. That faith was something Mara might have had once but it had been gone for a very long time. She eyed the woman curiously.
"Suit yourself. That's not something I can believe. Faith in something I haven't seen or experienced is beyond me. Forgive an unbeliever and I hope He helps you out." she said lightly but with a blunt edge, "My name's Mara. Around here they call me Slipstream. What about you?"
Aside from curiousity Mara figured that a conversation might help the woman calm down. At least enough so that Mara could figure her out. If the side effect was that she came off as kind then so be it. Mara could live with that.

"Suit yourself. That's not something I can believe. Faith in something I haven't seen or experienced is beyond me. Forgive an unbeliever and I hope He helps you out. My name's Mara. Around here they call me Slipstream. What about you?" the new mutant said.
Rosenna shrugged at the woman, Mara. She entertained herself with the thought of writing a book. She could call it 'A Guide to Witnessing to People When You are Having a Spiritual Breakdown at the Same Time."
It might be a best seller.
She wasn't too worried. She knew from experience that the best way to witness was to wait until that person really knew you. And then they would see what Christ was all about. That was the point anyway.
"Slipstream? That sounds... interesting. My name is Rosenna. But sometimed people call me Grave." She coughed. Hoping that Mara would miss that last part. She wondered what her mutation was but refused to ask for fear that she would return the question. She didn't want to be known as the girl that just killed people. And really that was all she did. If word got out though, the other mutants would be talking about the girl who goes around making people's intestines fall out just by blinking at them. Then she would never meet anyone and she would never get out of here on her own.

Mara let a smile drift onto her face. You catch more flies with honey was the phrase that came to mind. Except these were considerably larger and more powerful than flies. Mara took a seat on a tombstone.
"Rosenna, that's a pretty name. How long have you been here in our lovely camp? I'm still fairly new here myself. Not that I plan on staying longer than I can help."
She let the bait dangle there. Her sarcastic tone and following comment were just enough to hopefully incite Rosenna to inquire about them. She'd steered clear of mentioning powers just yet. Mara had caught Rosenna's tone when she mentioned her mutant nickname. She obviously wasn't comfortable with her power, whatever it was.
Mara next thought was to show Rosenna her ability but she decided against it. That would put pressure on her to reciprocate and Mara could see that she wasn't too keen on revealing her power yet. So she leaned back a bit on her tombstone seat, just enough to stretch her back, and kept smiling.

"Rosenna, that's a pretty name. How long have you been here in our lovely camp? I'm still fairly new here myself. Not that I plan on staying longer than I can help."
Rosenna heaved a sigh of relief. Mara hadn't said anything about her mutation, yet. She could only hope that she wouldn't until she really knew her. But she couldn't help but pick up on Mara's sarcasm as she talked about the camp and how she wanted to leave. Ok. She would take the bait.
Rosenna copied Mara and stood jautily with one arm on her hip and the other on dangling at her side. She was standing with most of her weight on her right leg with her left leg crossing at her ankles.
"Thank you for the compliment. I'm named after my grandmother. She lived to be 99 years old." Rosenna said with a smile on her face. The age of Meemaw had always been a family joke. She dies right before her 100th birthday leaving the family with a bunch of gifts covered in one-hundreds.
"I've only been here 2 weeks max. But im just loving the accomadations! Its so... over the top." she smiled at her own continuation of the joke. "But I wouldn't mind getting out of here myself."
Which was the truth. Sort of. Lately, Rosenna had been thinking that maybe here, she could do less damage to people. But regardless, she wanted to here what this girl had to say.

Mara listened intently. She couldn't be sure if this woman truly wanted to get out. Half hearted devotion to the task wouldn't do much against the guards and the barriers. Her eyes narrowed and became analytical. She studied Rosenna carefully.
"You sure? If you stay here you don't have to face the hatred of the masses. You can avoid hurting people that can't defend themselves too." she said.
Mara looked at Rosenna and then stood up. She stretched her legs several times and then looked about. She spoted a bunch of bright flowers on top of a tombstone a fair distance away.
"You see those flowers?" she asked rhetorically.
Mara took a breath and boosted. In no time she was at the tombstone with flowers. She picked them up and boosted back to where she had been. She held the flowers up. She tossed them in the air and then boosted them so that they flew much higher and further than they would have. With luck they landed very near the stone that Mara had picked them off of.
"No point in trying to get out of here if you've got mixed feelings, hun. Either you want to stay or you want to get out. 'Cus trying to get out otherwise would just get you killed." she took a breath, "I don't know what your mutation is and I won't ask. But you look like someone that doesn't like their mutation.
'It's as much a part of you as breathing. Everyone else here has one too. Otherwise those black clad goons wouldn't have dragged them here. Maybe yours is really dangerous. Who cares. If you can't trust yourself to control it or the others around here to protect themselves from it then you'll be stuck on your own in this prison for the rest of your life."

Rosenna kept her mouth shut. She didn't say anything as Mara ran with unhuman speed to the flowers, ran back and threw them high in the air to land in the same place they started. Rosenna was amazed at the woman's ablity but, as she heard Mara's next statement she had to say something.
Rosenna took a step back.
" I want to get out of here as much as anyone else. I don't like it in this prison. But don't act like you know how it feels to have a horrible mutation that scares everyone away when they know about it. You're what? superfast? Listen, hun, I've got bigger problems than cheating on a track meet."
To prove her point, she up rooted a large weed. She held it in her hand, narrowed her eyes and watched as it slowly crumpled and died. She dropped it on the ground.
"I can do that to any living thing. Either they decay or their lungs collapse. Its not a nice death, its a slow one. I don't know what you're planning, but if you're starting a rebellion, I won't use my powers unless I think it is necessary."
Rosenna almost turned to walk away when she realized she had nowhere to go.

Mara chuckled. Then the chuckle turned into a laugh. She couldn't help it. The self pity Rosenna was radiating was too much. It made her laugh. It was a potent power. Mara admitted that with ease. She managed to choke off her laughter.
"Big deal. You kill things. All that means is that your mutation is a bit more useful in battle than others." Mara stopped talking and looked up into the sky, "Just because you can kill things and probably accidentally did doesn't mean your personal horror is any more important or meaningful than anyone else's. There isn't a mutant here that doesn't have some hurt in their past. It's part of the world we live in.'
'Humans treat us like scum and lock us up. Anyone on the outside is only there because they've been good at hiding. You come to terms with it. Each of us in our own way. I plan on murdering the bastards that put us here in the first place.'
'All I'm saying is that if you wanna join up you need to have your priorities straight."
Mara looked back at Rosenna. Lord knows what the woman had been through but she wasn't interested in wound licking. Nor was she here to debate on whose pain was worse. She took a deep breath and let it out in a sigh.
"You want out of here then go look for a guy named Sulley. He'll explain things. I warn ya though, if you thought I was harsh you haven't seen anything yet. He's not the warmest of people." she paused, "If you want someone to listen sometime, look me up. I love a good story."
Mara wasn't sure what prompted her to make the offer. It was a little odd but she shrugged it off as she got up off of the tombstone. She took one last deep breath and boosted away.
"See ya later, Rosenna." she shouted as she sped off.
